Roy Chapman Andrews
Roy Chapman Andrews (1884–1960) was an American explorer, naturalist, and director of the American Museum of Natural History in New York. He is best remembered for the Central Asiatic Expeditions of the 1920s, a series of motorcar journeys deep into Mongolia and the Gobi Desert in search of the origins of humankind.
The expeditions never found early man, but they returned with one of the most famous discoveries in the history of palaeontology: the first nests of dinosaur eggs ever recognised by science, along with new fossil species and a vivid record of a Central Asia on the cusp of change.
A gifted writer and showman, Andrews turned his fieldwork into bestselling adventure narratives and is often cited as a real-life inspiration for the adventuring-scientist archetype later popularised on screen. Sonsoo carries his Mongolia and Central Asia writing, narrated for quiet listening.
